Widespread, locally common
Wingspan: 27-30mm. Deep pinkish-red head and shoulders.

Flight time: August-November
Habitat: Damp woods, heaths, moors, gardens

Larvae feed first on sallows then on herbaceous plants

Similar: Sallow has orange or yellow shoulders
