Needs breeding through to separate from S. anomalella

Wingspan: 4-6mm
Flight time: Two generations, May-August

Food plant: Rose (Rosa). More frequent on cultivars than S. anomalella
Mine: June-July and September-October
Egg usually on underside of leaf. The mine forms a long, winding corridor, often with a hairpin bend. Frass is in a central line with clear margins for the full length, and never coiled.
