Widespread, common
Wingspan: 17-21mm. Forewing with conspicuous central spot. Male has dark plate with two long pincers at 8th abdominal segment.

Flight time: May-August
Habitat: Gardens, hedges, woods, heaths, wetlands

Larvae feed on flowers and leaves of a range of herbaceous plants

Similar: Golden-rod Pug. 8th segment on males paler, no long extentions
